Growing Healthy, Where Fitness is Fun!, wants to partner with you to help our children get healthy.
What has happened?
Approximately 17% of American students are overweight. Students have fewer opportunities to exercise and play because of standardized testing and budget cuts. This has resulted in physical and health education class being cut from the school curriculum.
Solution….
Everyday, 53 million people go to school to work or learn. That's one in five Americans who will spend 30 hours of their week in a school. As a result, schools are a powerful way to shape the healthy, education and well being of American. (healthiergenerations.org) How can Growing Healthy help?
Growing healthy has designed a health and phys ed program for children aged 4-7.
This program includes;
• Understanding the health risks for their age group
• Use of the Food Pyramid and identification of healthy foods
• Understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyle habits
• Development of body space awarenes
• Exhibiting the emerging skills of catching, kicking, throwing and striking and the knowledge of muscular strength and endurance.
• Understanding that foods provide nutrients
• Identification of serving sizes and number of daily servings needed form each food group
• Understanding of the relationship between nutrition an physical fitness and the need for safety in group sports
• Recognition of the importance of good sportsmanship and cooperative learning
• Identification of fundamental movement in patterns
• Understanding the basic information on food labels
• Understanding the importance of being physically active
• Performing the skills of kicking, dribbling, passing and trapping.
How the Program works.
Once a week a Growing Healthy Staff member,(who has PA State clearance), will come to your school and provide a one hour session of Health and P. WE provide the equipment, you provide the space.
How much will this cost?
We charge $20.00 per child per month. This includes one Growing Healthy Staff Member, all equipment and handouts.
